Aprenda sobre Protopic

How does it work?

Protopic treats eczema by targeting the underlying disease process itself, although exactly how it works in eczema is not known. Scientists believe that when an irritant, like dust, comes in contact with the skin of a person with eczema, the skin's immune cells (the cells that protect us from disease) overreact and send chemical messages that result in an eczema flare-up. Protopic enters the immune cells and blocks them from creating these chemical messages, thus slowing or halting the eczema.

Most people using Protopic will begin to feel relief from their symptoms within 1 to 3 weeks. The skin generally begins to heal after the first few weeks of treatment and continues to improve as they keep using Protopic.

It’s approved for adults in concentrations of 0.1% and 0.03% and for children, aged 2 to 15 years, in the 0.03% concentration only. Although individual results may vary, many people see improvement after the first few weeks of treatment.

The most common side effects are stinging and burning. The worse your eczema is, the more likely you may have stinging and burning. Protopic may be associated with an increased risk of certain skin infections. When using Protopic, avoid direct sunlight, tanning salons, and phototherapy, and don’t cover the skin being treated with bandages, dressings, or wraps. Only your doctor can weigh the risks and benefits and decide if Protopic is right for you.
